What is the Difference Between a Psychiatrist and a Psychologist Anyway?

You may be wondering what the difference is between a Psychiatrist and a Psychologist. I'm often asked and totally understand that it can be confusing.

I'm a Psychologist with training in psychopharmocology but I don't prescribe medication. Psychiatrists prescribe medication.

Often I see patients who see me and a Psychiatrist. When that happens, I'm always wanting to make sure that I have permission to talk to the Psychiatrist so we can coordinate our treatment.

But that is not the only difference between a Psychiatrist and a Psychologist. As a consumer, I'm sure it is confusing to you when you think about it.

So here is a video that I produced to help you know the difference.
