Perfectionism is the desire to be faultless, a fear of imperfection, and thinking of errors as personal defects. People who are perfectionists view perfection as the only route to personal acceptance.
There are two forms of perfectionism: Adaptive and Maladaptive. Perfectionism that is adaptive is often viewed as a compliment. It is seen as diligence and the pursuit of excellence. The maladaptive form is destructive, dysfunctional, and persistent and it is ultimately damaging both to the person who is the perfectionist and to the people closest to them (such as their children, their spouse, or their coworkers)
Perfectionism can put a major strain on all your relationships. It can interfere with intimacy, it can make parenting ineffective, and it can really interfere with your reputation at work because you may be difficult to work with.
Are you a perfectionist?
I recently came across an article from the Huffington Post (which I love to read by the way) that outlined 14 Signs Your Perfectionism Has Gotten Out of Control. When I read it, there is one of the 14 signs I really relate to.
Number 5 is “Go Big or Go Home”.
Yep, that is me! It is hard for me to do anything half way or just a little. If I’m going to do something, I want to do it big!
Okay. So I’m working on that.
